St
Nicholas Church vessels - SMC153
Stored
in the strongroom of St Magnus Cathedral are a set of communion
vessels from St Nicholas Church, Orphir.
There are six pewter chalices, five of which are intact and
one is missing its stem, and two jugs with hinged lids. The
vessels are accompanied with cardboard labels which state
they are the property of Orphir Kirk Session.
The vessels were clearly intended for use during the service
of Holy Communion. Communion is where the congregation of
a church receive bread and wine in commemoration of Christ's
Last Supper.
