The communion table in the choir - SMC151

This communion table is in the choir of St Magnus Cathedral and is placed before the organ screen. It was designed by George Mackie Watson and carved out of Scottish Oak during the refurbishment of the Cathedral.

The table is carved with floral motifs and grape vines. The bible verse "This do in remembrance of me", Luke 22:19, is carved into the front of the table.

Holy Communion, or the Eucharist, is a Christian service of thanksgiving where the congregation receive bread and wine. The bread represents the body of Christ and the wine his blood. This echoes events at The Last Supper.
