Workers in the 1970s - SMC136

In the early 1970s an appeal was launched to raise money to prevent the nave of St Magnus Cathedral from collapsing. The main contractor on the repairs was Forrest Construction Ltd,

Other specialist companies were brought in as work progressed such as fibre glass specialists for the new, light weight, vaulting. Local men were employed as labourers.

This photograph shows some of the workers who took part in the 1972-73 repairs with Albert Thomson, the Cathedral Custodian, at the front right.
