West end of the nave - SMC134
This is the west end of St Magnus Cathedral. The different construction periods can clearly be seen in the colour of stone used at clerestory level. The yellow stone to the east probably dates from the mid-thirteenth century, while the red stone to the west is fifteenth or sixteenth century in origin.
The west end of the nave of St Magnus Cathedral was the last part to be constructed. The exact date of the completion is unknown but it is likely to have been no later than the mid-sixteenth century.
The west façade is not as extravagant as the rest of the building and the most westerly bays of the nave and choir were not vaulted until much later.
