Cross Mould - SMC125

This cross mould, of unknown date, was found concealed in an alcove of St Magnus Cathedral. It was probably used to make lead crosses for pilgrims to the shrine of St Magnus.

A depiction of a cross produced from the mould can be seen in Crear McCartney's great west window of St Magnus Cathedral.

During the mid-twentieth century a silver copy of the St Magnus Cross was produced in Birmingham for William Hourston, Jewellers, Albert Street, Kirkwall.
