800th anniversary commemoration service - SMC119

At 11am on the 29th of July 1937 a commemoration service was held at St Magnus Cathedral. This service was part of the octocentenary celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the Cathedral.

The service was attended by a congregation of over 1500 people, including many local dignitaries. Before the service there were many processions including one of the Provosts of Kirkwall.

The service was attended by the Bishop of Nidaros who presented a statue of St Olaf. It was fitting as the 29th of July is St Olaf's day.
