The
Mackie Watson scheme: The Triforium Scenes - SMC117
In
1908 three architects submitted plans for the restoration
of St Magnus Cathedral. The scheme proposed by George Mackie
Watson was chosen as the best.
The plan to install screens in the triforium arches did not
go ahead. The public, during the early twentieth century,
were concerned that St Magnus Cathedral would be spoiled by
over restoration.
The decorations would have been paintings of biblical scenes
and would have been placed at triforium level in the nave
and choir.
