The
Mackie Watson scheme: The three plans - SMC114
Between
May 1907 and October 1908 three Scottish architects submitted
competing plans for the restoration of St Magnus Cathedral.
These architects were Mr George M. Watson, Mr Hippolyte J.
Blanc, and Mr John Kinross.
An adjudicating architect, Mr Burnet, was nominated to choose
the best scheme. George Mackie Watson was chosen as the winner
and his plan became the basis for the restoration.
Kirkwall Town Council, Kirkwall Presbytery, and the Heritors
of Kirkwall all agreed to the proposed scheme of restoration.
