Kirkwall in the Orkneys by Buckham Hugh Hossack - SMC110

Buckham Hugh Hossack was born in 1832 on Stronsay and died in 1902 in Kirkwall. During his life he was a teacher, an honorary Justice of the Peace and a member of Orkney County Council.

His great historical work, 'Kirkwall in the Orkneys', was published in 1900. It provides an account of Kirkwall's history from the Norse period to the end of the nineteenth century. The book is not written chronologically but provides a history of the individual buildings and streets.

The book, though over 100 years old, is still considered one of Orkney's best historical accounts.
