St Magnus Stained Glass Window - SMC106
Located at triforium level on the north wall of the north transept is a stained glass window of St Magnus. He is not depicted as a Norseman and is beardless and crowned. He carries a martyr's palm and a large sword.
Earl Magnus I of Orkney was killed in 1117 at the order of his cousin, Earl Hakon. Magnus was canonised in 1134 and became the patron saint of Orkney.
This is one of the most well known windows of St Magnus Cathedral and is located in a prominent position. The window dates from the 1920s and is the work of Oscar Patterson.
