St Triduana Stained Glass Window - SMC091

Located at clerestory level of the north transept gable of St Magnus Cathedral is a stained glass depiction of St Triduana, also known as St Tredwell.

According to legend, St Triduana was one of a group of nuns who accompanied St Regulus from Constantinople to Scotland. They brought with them the relics of St Andrew. Triduana was a beautiful woman who attracted the attentions of a Pictish King called Nectan. On discovering that he was attracted to her eyes she gouged them out and presented them to him on a thorn.

On the Orkney Island of Papa Westray, or Papay, is a mediaeval chapel dedicated to St Triduana. This window was created by Oscar Patterson.
