Modern gargoyles - SMC070
During the early twentieth century St Magnus Cathedral underwent a major refurbishment. The major external change to the building was the construction of a taller steeple.

The new corbelled parapet has small gableted openings and it has big dragon gargoyles These gargoyles were added at the same time that the parapet and steeple were rebuilt.

A gargoyle is a grotesque spout which usually has a human or animal head. It projects from a gutter to carry water clear of the wall.
