Moulding
is a purely ornamental technique which involves the use of
a strip of stone, either grouted or projected, which is placed
above or below a level surface. Moulding can commonly be found
on walls and also on arches and the bases of piers.
Both simple and enriched moulding is used throughout St Magnus
Cathedral. Simple moulding is undecorated while enriched is
decorated. Moulding can be found on almost all of the major
architectural features of St Magnus Cathedral. From the bases
of the piers to the tops of the

a wall.
