Stylised animal stone heads in the presbytery - SMC053
In the presbytery, as in both sides of the nave , can be found carved heads. The heads are placed in pairs at the bases of roof supports and are a form of decoration.

The two heads shown are stylised animal heads and can be found in the presbytery of St Magnus Cathedral. They are not carved in a naturalistic fashion and must be attempts to carve mythical animals or just animals the stone masons had never seen.

Stone heads can be found in many areas of St Magnus Cathedral including the north and south sides of the nave and the presbytery.
