Douglas Strachan - SMC040
Douglas Strachan was born in Aberdeen in 1875. He studied at both Gray's School of Art and the Royal Academy in London. After initial dissatisfaction with his first piece of stained glass he was persuaded to continue and developed into a brilliant artist.

While he was interested in the Futurism, Cubism, and Vorticism movements, Strachan's style was not influenced by them. Strachan composed his windows in areas of pure colour which were then defined and modified by areas of silvery white.

The second window from the crossing in the north nave aisle of St Magnus Cathedral was created by Douglas Strachan in 1912. It shows the baptism of Christ and is dedicated to James David.
