Remains of a cathedra - SMC032
The remains of a cathedra can be found in the south triforium of the nave. A cathedra is the chair or throne of a bishop on which he sits during official functions.

This cathedra dates from before the reformation when it was the throne of the bishop. In the post-reformation period, under the Stewarts, it became the seat of the earl. Hossack states that the throne was situated on the south side of the choir and describes it as a "handsome canopied".

The cathedra narrowly escaped destruction by puritan troops when they broke up and burnt some of the cathedrals internal furnishings.
