The
biometric report on the remains of St Magnus - SMC021
The
remains of St Magnus and St Rognvald were examined by R.W.
Reid in 1925. He wrote a report on what he found, the report
can be found in the Orkney Room of Kirkwall Library.
The remains found in the South Pillar were of a man 25-35
years in age, 171.7cm tall and physically poorly developed.
There were two incised wounds on the vault and base of the
skull that must have resulted in death. Other than those to
the skull, the victim had no other wounds.
Reid concluded that the remains found in the South Pillar
conformed to the description of St Magnus's death in the Orkneyinga
saga.
