Buckham Hugh Hossack - SMC008
Buckham Hugh Hossack (1832-1902) was born in Stronsay and educated in Kirkwall and Edinburgh. He was a schoolteacher in Edinburgh until he returned to Orkney.

When he returned to Orkney he built Craigiefield House near Kirkwall. In 1900 he published, after much research, 'Kirkwall in the Orkneys'. This was a very detailed account of Kirkwall's history and the personalities involved throughout its development.

As well as a schoolteacher and historian, Hossack was also an Honorary Sheriff and a Justice of the Peace. In addition he was also a member of the Orkney County Council.
