Norway has ruled the Western Isles since the 11th century when a deal was struck between Magnus Barelegs and the King of Scots.

However, huge changes are occuring in Scotland right now. Alexander II, the current King of Scots, is ambitious and wants to claim more land. It won't be long before he looks to the west.

Background

According to the Orkneyinga Saga, Malcolm III 'Canmore', King of Scots agreed to give up all the islands to the west which could be navigated by a ship. King Magnus tried to claim Kintyre by being dragged across its narrow isthmus in his boat.
