Women in Football, Part 1:
Ladies Football Team, 1910

Rothes Ladies Football Team, Morayshire, 1910

This photograph shows a ladies football team before the first World War.

The ladies team is dressed in a strip of vertical stripes, with dark shorts and socks with bands of dark and light colours, similar to a male team of the period. This is very different from other sports played by both men and women at the time, such as tennis, where a clear difference between the outfits worn can be seen, with women players having to wear long skirts.
