Hearts’ War Memorial

Directors and players past and present at a remembrance service at the Heart of Midlothian War Memorial at Haymarket

Following the declaration of war in 1914, all of the Hearts team volunteered and joined up. By doing so, they set an example many thousands of their team's fans followed. Of the players, seven were killed, and few of the survivors were able to play again. How many supporters returned is not known.

The Memorial Clock was built to commemorate those associated with Hearts who were killed in the War. It was unveiled in 1922.
