PThe World Cup, 1998, Part 1:
Scots Fan Base

Scots fans at a Bordeaux fountain during the World Cup in France, 16 June 1998

Scots fans congregating at a Bordeaux fountain during the World Cup in France, Tuesday 16 June, 1998.

Before the match against Norway, Scots fans congregated in various parts of Bordeaux. This park and fountain became a temporary base and a convenient location to display flags. After the match, fans, influenced somewhat by the effects of drinking alcohol in the sunshine, jumped into the fountain to cool off!

This photograph was taken on the day that Scotland were to play Norway in their second game of the World Cup. Many thousands of Scotland fans did not have tickets for the game, so had to settle for watching the match on a large cinema screen at the nearby Café Mondial. The game finished in a 1-1 draw.
