After their successes of the previous year, disappointingly the 1978 team were beaten by Peru in Argentina. Coincidentally the Hillman Avenger was the last car to be produced at Linwood.

Based in Glasgow, The Herald is one of Britain's most distinguished titles. Established in 1783, it has served the people of Scotland for more than 200 years and it is the oldest English language daily newspaper in the world.
