Finding an engagement ring, Bordeaux, France, Tuesday 16 June, 1998

Congratulations after recovering an engagement ring during the World Cup, Bordeaux, France, Tuesday 16 June, 1998.

In the excitement of celebrating a Craig Burley goal for Scotland against Norway in the World Cup, the man wearing a red Norwegian top (although he was a Scot) lost his engagement ring! To everyone's obvious relief, the Norwegian woman on the left (who is wearing a Scotland scarf) was the one who recovered the ring on the ground!

The Mondial Café, a large area with a huge cinema screen set aside for fans who did not have tickets for the match, was situated on the banks of the River Garonne in Bordeaux. Around ten thousands ticketless Scots and Norwegians watched the game together in the sunshine. The match finished in a 1-1 draw.
