Dundee Utd, Part 1:
Richard Gough

Richard Gough, playing for Scotland against Poland in May 1990. Despite being born in Sweden, Gough played 61 times for his country. He represented Scotland in two World Cup tournaments (1986 and 1990) and also at the European Championship in Sweden in 1992.

Gough started his career with Dundee United, under the coaching of the inspirational Jim McLean, where he played mostly at right back. He moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 1986, becoming Captain, and moved to playing in the heart of defence as a centre back. He returned to Scotland to play for Glasgow Rangers, where he captained them to many successful league and cup campaigns.

After playing in America, Gough returned to the Ibrox side in 1997. His natural fitness saw him continue to play at the highest level, until he finished his career at Everton when he retired in 2001, aged 39.
