Famous Teams: Celtic
Celtic were formed in 1888. Opposed by their city rivals Rangers, both teams have challenged for supremacy throughout their histories. Recently, following Rangers long period of dominance over the domestic game, the Celtic side under Martin OíNeill have wrestled the league title away from the Ibrox side. Whatever happens in the future, it will be assured that both clubs will keenly contest every competition.
The Celtic team of the late 1960s and early Ď70s is perhaps the most famous of the Scottish club sides. Managed by an ex-player, Jock Stein, their dominance of the domestic game culminated in the first nine-in-a-row league wins (1966-1975). The teamís finest moment came in 1967 with their win over Inter Milan in the European Cup final, in Lisbon, Portugal. Celtic was not only the first British team to win the trophy, but also the first Northern European club.
