Communist Party of Great Britain

The Communist Party of Great Britain was formed in 1920 after a meeting of the Communist Unity Convention, attended by delegates from the British Socialist Party, the Communist Unity Group of the Socialist Labour Party, the South Wales Socialist Society and other groups. William Gallagher was one of those who played an influential role in the formation of the party. During a trip to Russia for the Third International (the Comintern) in 1920 he had several meetings with Russian leader Lenin which persuaded Gallagher to help form of a British communist party.
