Certificate issued to ILP founding members at 35th anniversary conference, 1927

image from Red Clydeside collection

This 35th anniversary conference certificate was issued to all founding members of the Independent Labour Party (ILP) who were still alive in 1927. This particular certificate was issued to foundation member James Hall Maxwell, a member of the ILP from its inception in 1893 until the 35th anniversary conference in 1927.

The image depicted on the front of the certificate showing the workers of the world was drawn by the famous socialist artist and cartoonist 'Flambo'.

The certificate also lists all of the previous nine chairmen of the ILP from its inception in 1893 to the date of issue of the certificate. These include J. K. Hardie, J. Bruce Glasier and James Maxwell.
