Photograph of group of Communist Party members selling 'The Communist' magazine in Glasgow in the 1920s. The Communist magazine was the weekly organ of the Communist Party of Great Brtain.
In February 1923 The Communist was completely overhauled and renamed the Workers' Weekly. Within the space of eight weeks the character of the paper had entirely changed and circulation had risen from 19,000 to 51,000. This reflected a marked strengthening of the party's influence in the wider labour movement and corresponded with the growth of a left wing within the Labour Party and the trade unions.
This growth in circulation of Workers' Weekly reflected a marked strengthening of the party's influence in the wider labour movement, and corresponded with the growth of a left wing within the Labour Party and the trade unions during the same period.
